Highest Household Bills In PA: See Which Towns Pay The Most Each Month

PENNSYLVANIA — Some Pennsylvania residents spend more than $3,000 on their household bills each month, according to a new study comparing the most expensive counties and cities in every state.
A new report by payment network Doxo shows that the average American household spends $24,557 per year on the most important household bills. These include mortgage and rent payments, utility bills, insurance costs, car payments, phone bills, and other monthly costs.
The report, which reflects actual bill payment activity in more than 97 percent of U.S. zip codes, identifies the most and least expensive states for Americans to live in based on average monthly spending on actual household bill payments.
The average household in America spends $2,046 per month on the ten most common household bills, according to the report.
“As consumers navigate their household bills in today’s volatile marketplace, bill payers may feel left in the dark, not fully understanding how much they are truly paying each month,” said Liz Powell, Senior Director of Insights at Doxo.
Pennsylvania residents pay an average of $1,496 less per year than the national average to cover their household bills, according to the Doxo report, which examines the $3.87 trillion U.S. consumer bill pay market.
Keystone State residents pay more than the national average for monthly mortgage payments, auto insurance, and health insurance, the study shows.
Household expenses in Pennsylvania account for 34 percent of the annual household income, which Doxo lists at $66,974.
How much is that per month? Doxo shows that the average Keystone State household pays $1,922 every month on bills – or $23,061 per year. But in some towns and cities, the cost is even higher.
The Doxo report also identifies the most expensive cities to live in by state, based on the average amount of these bills.
Here are the top 10 cities in Pennsylvania with the highest household bills, according to the Doxo report. The state average is $1,922 per month.
- Wynnewood: Residents average $3,243 per month on household bills.
- Wayne: $3,093 per month.
- Plymouth Meeting: $3,000 per month.
- Doylestown: $2,929 per month.
- Malvern: $2,928 per month.
- Glen Mills: $2,896 per month.
- Langhorne: $2,885 per month.
- Media: $2,884 per month.
- Bryn Mawr: $2,878 per month.
- Collegeville: $2,853 per month.
