I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel like after all of my bills are paid my bank account feels absolutely exhausted, leaving not much (if any) for non-essentials. Approximately 35% of the U.S. household’s income goes towards paying the household bills. Maybe I’m feeling that extra pinch because according to a new study by doxo, a company that helps manage your household bills, Massachusetts residents pay $7,320 more for household bills than the US average, annually.

Housing expenses consist of shelter (mortgage payments, property taxes, or rent; maintenance and repairs; and insurance), utilities (gas, electricity, fuel, cell/telephone, and water), and house furnishings and equipment (furniture, floor coverings, major appliances, and small appliances). doxo’s report shows that Hawaii not surprisingly has the most expensive monthly household bills, costing residents on average #3,070 per month. Massachusetts had a pretty bad showing as well, ending up in the Top 10 most expensive states in the US as far as monthly household bills are concerned. Where did we rank? That’s coming up below!

So what we’ll give you is this: we’ll start with the Top 3 MOST EXPENSIVE states in the US, then we’ll give you the Top 3 LEAST EXPENSIVE states in the US, and we’ll round things out with how every New England state did – finally wrapping up with Massachusetts.

We’ll give you the state, the average cost of monthly household bills in the state, and what percentage of the average household’s income that represents in each state. One thing we can all probably agree with – bills suck. They’re like little piranhas that come visit every month to nibble what they can off of you. I’m tired of being piranha chow.

And while we’re talking about sad Massachusetts stats, how sad is it that Massachusetts doesn’t have any of these popular fast food chains inside state lines??
