Report: See how much Baton Rouge households are spending on bills

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new report shows how much the average household in Baton Rouge spends on bills compared to the rest of the country.

According to doxo’s report, Americans spend $3.35 trillion each year on household bills, spending $2,126 a month, or $25,513 a year, on essential bills. 

The types of bills used in the report include car loans, mortgage, rent, car insurance, utilities, cable and satellite, mobile phone, health insurance, life insurance and alarm and security.

In Baton Rouge, the report said the average household pays $2,513 a month, or $30,154 a year, for the 10 most common household bills. Data shows Baton Rouge households spend 49% of annual household income of $61,378 on bills. 

In a national comparison, Baton Rouge household expenses are $4,641 per year higher than the U.S. average.

Baton Rouge is the eighth most expensive city in the state of Louisiana. The report’s statewide comparison shows that household expenses are 27.1% higher than the $1,977 average.
