If we ever forget how expensive Connecticut is, a reminder is quick to pop up.

There is a website Doxo that does state-by-state financial analysis and according to their data, Connecticut is super expensive. Our average monthly expenses are $2,569 dollars which is $5,310 per year higher than the national average.

It means our average for the year is just over $30K. Household expenses in Connecticut are over 20% higher than the national average. These monthly payments account for an average of 31% of our income. In terms of monthly bills, the Constitution State is the 8th most expensive in the nation.

We are just leaking cake from every pore but there is a king-of-kings, a top-dog in Connecticut. Were you able to guess which town has the highest monthly bills in the state?

If you said Wilton, you nailed it.

Wilton Monthly figures:

  • The average household in Wilton pays $3,733 per month.
  • The average household in Wilton pays over $41,000 per year.

  • People in Wilton spend $19,000+ annually over the US average.
  • The monthly expenses in Wilton account for 19% of the household income which is an average of over $98k.

I live in Danbury and curiosity got the best of me so I’ll share the Hat City numbers:

  • 31st in the state for monthly expenses with an average payout of $2,580 a month.
  • Danbury is 21% higher than the national average.
  • Household bills account for over 38% of our annual income.
